New Kit - Yummy Downton Inspiration and Oh That Hat!

As the popularity of “Downton Abbey” continues, the desire for Edwardian (Titanic) Dresses, post war and now Deco dresses are in demand. “Titanic” dresses are in constant demand for me so we are getting a bit of a wardrobe of them. I think it is time to pack a Steamer trunk. Inspired by a collection in Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the dress, hat, and bag is our newest pattern to La Petite Belle Patterns. The sample is dated 1910. This dress and all the wonderful and historical wardrobe items are incredible. What an exhilarating place it is! The original dress belonged to Miss Heather Firbank (1888-1954) I have taken some license and actually combined two dresses of similar line and era and added a slight train to make it a little more interesting. My goal was to make the hat filled with Sweet Peas as this one was, but the challenge was great. I have opted to cover the hat with small punched flowers of multi colors and get us really close to the original. Of course, with any pattern, the creativity is yours; the pattern is the springboard for your own ideas. The handbag is not new, but it goes together a little differently, so I hope you like the style. It is made of leather- like fabric so take your time and do your best work. Diagramming is not my strongest suit, but I did do some systematic drawings and hope it is not too difficult. I do hope you enjoy making this dress. Happy New Years to All

Firstly, Kathi and I wish the the most healthy, happy and prosperous New Year!
New beginnings for the New Year! It is about time! Drum roll please....
A new kit is ready, or nearly ready, for you to start your New Year off. Welcome to 1880, where the garments fit close to the figure and cut narrowly to accentuate a thin silhouette. The stand up lace collar with lace jabot adorns the top of a long jacket and vest that extend below the hips. Sleeves are long and tight. Foundation skirts if not tight to the body tied behind the knees, as this is to draw all the fullness to the rear. Draped apron front and back finish out the iconic look. The pleated or ruffled hem gathers to the back and flare in a slight train. Her jewelry is impeccable with a gold broach and jewel and pearl earrings. The accenting hat ties under the chin and simply decorated. With her leather belt bag and velvet muff, she is ready for a day of strolling in the park.
The porcelain is meticulously painted by Gisele Sullivan and ready for assembly. The kit includes porcelain doll parts, hair, fabrics trims, pattern and nearly everything you need to complete the project.

Babies, Babies, Babies

Michelle has been "after me" for some time to make a new set of baby patterns. I figured there was nothing new to make and had put it off for quite some time. Last summer while it was deliriously warm, the topic came up again on the Mini Doll Group and so I entertained the idea once more.
I found there were many things people would like to have and started with a list of wants. These patterns are the first results of that endeavor. I started with the basics of blankets and diapers, diaper pins and diaper bags. Babies go home in nifty things, but when I was young, a diaper shirt and a warm blanket. Let’s face it; diaper changing is the main function and ease of changing is first and foremost in a young, or old, mother’s mind. There is a diaper stack with baby pins and diapers to wear. A cute onesie pattern is included for fun. The second pattern contained things for baby’s first picture or events in a baby’s life, like Christening. There are embroidered dresses and jumpsuits, and Christen clothes, as well as a fun lace dress that smocking will add to greatly, and boy’s jumper with a funky little hat. I hope you enjoy making these little things.
